After graduating George knew he wanted work in asset management. Two years in and one very important conversation later, he's working for our US team.
After graduating, I knew I wanted to be part of the asset management community... but I didn’t know where and what I wanted to be.
After graduating, I knew I wanted to be part of the asset management community. Like many other graduates, I wasn’t sure where to go next. I thought I wanted to be part of the Equity Team so I interviewed for the Equity Summer Internship at Aviva Investors. However, Aviva Investors thought I would be better suited to a role in Fixed Income. My thinking was: AI has been doing this a bit longer than I have, so maybe they know what they are talking about.
I joined the Fixed Income Team back in spring 2015 as a summer intern, which turned into a graduate role three months later. The idea was for me to rotate around the different areas of Fixed Income, although I kept gravitating back to the Investment Grade Corporate Team. I enjoyed the work they did and there was a great bunch of friendly people who were more than happy to take the time out to teach me.
Then I got talking to the Global Head of Investment Grade who mentioned that the portfolio manager over in the US needed a junior. The next day I informally applied then six months and a bunch of paperwork later, I was moving to the US. Taking a step back, not many people nine months deep into their career would even have tried applying for this position, but I was because of the friendly and approachable environment he and the team encourage. I cannot reiterate this enough. Two years into my career and I’m in a great seat, learning from great people as part of a great community.
